Eligible people in the Black Country are being reminded they only have a few weeks left to take up the offer of a flu vaccine.

The flu vaccine is recommended for people at higher risk of getting seriously ill from flu, including those who:

  • are aged 65 or over (including those who will be 65 by 31 March 2025)
  • have certain long-term health conditions
  • are pregnant
  • live in a care home
  • are the main carer for an older or disabled person, or receive a carer's allowance
  • live with someone who has a weakened immune system.

The flu vaccination programme has been running since October 2024, and since then more than 320,000 people have received a flu vaccination. Anyone who is eligible for the vaccine and not yet been vaccinated can still come forward and get theirs until 31 March.

Sally Roberts, Chief Nursing Officer for the NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board (ICB), said: “Flu can be a serious illness, especially for those who are older, pregnant, or have underlying health conditions.

“The flu vaccine offers the best protection, reducing the risk of severe illness and hospitalisation. Our pop-up clinics are a great way for those eligible for a flu vaccine to get vaccinated at a time and location that suits them, with no appointment necessary.

“With the offer of a flu vaccine ending later this month, I would encourage anyone eligible to come forward before it’s too late.”
