A GP surgery in Wednesbury has relocated to a new building, providing much-needed extra space and additional modern facilities for its patients and staff.

Crankhall Lane Medical Centre on Crankhall Lane has now closed its doors and moved to a new state-of-the-art building less than half a mile away on Friar Park Road.

The new practice, which has been renamed Tame Valley Medical Centre, features five large clinical rooms, a spacious reception area, two disabled toilets, a baby feeding room and an onsite car park with four disabled spaces. Staff will also benefit from additional office space and IT equipment, as well as a clinical meeting room.

The practice currently has 13 members of staff and cares for more than 4,500 patients across the area. Patients will continue to see the same GPs and health professionals as they do now.

The relocation was partly funded through an investment from NHS England’s Estates and Technology Transformation Fund – a national funding programme to help GP practices make improvements to services including more modern facilities and new technologies.

Dr Tehmina Rahman, GP Partner at Tame Valley Medical Centre, said: “For years we have been looking to improve the cramped and outdated facilities at Crankhall Lane Medical Centre, in order to improve services for our patients and their families.

“This move is very exciting, and our patients will now benefit from a modern, spacious and wheelchair-friendly new centre which has good access and better facilities.

“It was also important to us that we change the name of the practice to reflect its relocation from Crankhall Lane, and we thought a nod to the River Tame, which runs through Wednesbury, was fitting.

“We are a family practice that has been part of the local community for more than 40 years. We might have a new name and new building with modern facilities, but we’re still the same passionate team and there will be no change in the level of quality care our patients receive.”

Sarb Basi, Director of Primary Care for the NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board, said: “We’re really pleased to be supporting this long-awaited project at a time when demand for GP appointments is greater than ever.

“These new facilities will enable the practice to continue to provide excellent care in a fit-for-purpose comfortable environment, whilst catering for the growing community in the Wednesbury area.

“Local GP practices play a vital role in helping us all look after our health, and this new centre will be a fantastic resource both for the practice and the community it cares for.”
